Minsait, to launch its smart city management platform in Antwerp and Helsinki

SPAIN - 20 of NOVEMBER of 2018
  • The Indra company’s proposal has been selected from among leading technology companies to participate in the final phase of “Select for Cities”, an important Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) competition which is part of the ambitious research and innovation plan Horizon 2020, promoted and financed by the EU
  • The solution uses Minsait’s Onesait Platform, the Internet of Things and Big Data Open Platform as its technological basis, and its goal is to provide solutions that meet real needs to improve the efficiency and quality of life in the European cities through digital transformation

Minsait, an Indra company, will launch its Smart Cities management platform in Antwerp and Helsinki after being selected in the European competition “Select for Cities”. This Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) process, financed by the Horizon 2000 program of the European Union, has the main goal of designing, developing and deploying digital platforms based on the “Internet of Everything” (IoE) for the improvement of the quality of life and citizen services in Europe through the most advanced technologies.

Minsait’s proposal, which competed against others from leading global technological companies, thus enters the final test phase after having passed the previous two design and prototype phases. Between November 2018 and September 2019 in Helsinki and Antwerp, respectively, the company will direct advanced Smart Cities projects to solve real needs in different environments that make it possible to improve service efficiency and quality of life in European Cities. In addition, Minsait will bring local developers and end users on board in its projects, fostering the emergence of innovation ecosystems in both cities.

The solution that Minsait will launch uses the Onesait Platform (formerly Minsait IoT Sofia2), Minsait’s open Internet of Things and Big Data platform. This can integrate and manage data from multiple sources and devices using predictive models and rules to generate relevant information, relevant not only to the public, but also for managers, helping them to take decisions which better reflect the city’s needs.

The Select for Cities project was conceived as a competition in which companies from the Smart Cities and Internet of Things (IoT) fields propose innovative solutions for specific problems in European cities. The project consortium (Buyers Group) comprises Digipolis (Antwerp), lead procurer; Forum Virium (Helsinki), project manager; and the city of Copenhagen.

The Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) process allows different technological approaches to be compared and reduce the risk associated with the development of an innovation project, from the design and prototyping phase to the validation of a first version of the product or service.

Leader in Smart Cities

Minsait has completed more than 120 projects in the Smart Cities field around the world and is participating in important international initiatives such as City 2020, CPSE-Labs, Transforming Transport, Arrowhead, e-Vacuate and Mobywallet.

The company is currently collaborating, among others, in the development of the projects “Las Palmas Inteligencia Azul” (Las Palmas Blue Intelligence) and “Cáceres Patrimonio Inteligente” (Caceres Smart Heritage) in Spain, with the aim of strengthening the positioning of both cities as tourist destinations. It is also the technological partner of Madrid City Council in the largest digital transformation project in urban planning in Europe. This has made it possible to put all the information on urban projects in Spain's capital city at the click of a button, in order to expedite procedures and increase their transparency and security.

Minsait also started a transformation project for the Logroño City Council in 2017, and has pilot projects in several cities in areas such as impact simulation for pollution protocols and accident intervention.
