The “Innovators 2020” experience
The corporate world demands agile electronic voting solutions
Last December 10th we celebrated the closing of Innovators 2020, Indra's intra-enterprise initiative. The winning idea had to be chosen and we opted to do so through a live vote for the "best pitch" among all the connected employees. In a few minutes, Onesite Democracy Election Online allowed us to vote telematically to choose and congratulate the winner.
Indra, recently awarded the National Innovation Award, is committed to an open innovation model that includes its own professionals in the process of creating disruptive ideas. The intra-enterprise and innovation initiative, called Innovators, in its fourth edition had the participation of 11,000 employees from 40 countries and more than 330 disruptive ideas were presented.
After the selection of the 10 finalist ideas, the professionals who proposed them had the opportunity to present their proposals at the Innovators Closing Ceremony. This ceremony, like the entire 2020 edition, has been strongly conditioned by the pandemic, forcing to hold the event in an online format for the first time. In particular, and as a novelty for this edition, the election of a winning idea was incorporated by the attendees voting for the "best pitch", which was added as a winner to the three ideas selected by the Innovation Committee of Indra.
To carry out the voting, Minsait's Onesite Democracy Election Online (ODEO) electronic voting solution was chosen, which fitted perfectly with the challenges of the event. Voting, and its resolution, had to be done in a short period of time since it was not opened until all the finalists had presented their ideas and the winner to the "best pitch" was announced during the event itself. In addition, it had to allow for safe and reliable voting that was not exposed to double voting or even voting by people who were not Indra professionals.
ODEO's solution is based on blockchain and allows the voting to be carried out from any location through a system that can be used in different mobile devices. As a result, the logistics of the electoral event are drastically reduced. It also guarantees the security of the process thanks to the encryption application present in the remote devices. The data is located in centralized environments guaranteeing its quality, security and correct use.
The tool, recently developed, is already being tested as part of the "Elections of the Future" project, to demonstrate the innovation proposals for the electronic voting system in Brazil, in the first round of the 2020 Municipal Elections. However, Innovators 2020 voting offered an unbeatable opportunity to launch ODEO in a real environment.
The result was a success. In just 5 minutes, more than 85% of the event's attendees completed the voting process. Each of the finalists was easily identifiable by including not only the text of their idea in the order of their intervention, but also the photo of the finalist himself. In addition, the registration of votes could be done almost in real time and show the results from the solution itself.
We live in an increasingly digital world where online interactions are becoming more and more important. It is therefore necessary to have simple technological tools that allow us to manage participatory processes in a safe and reliable way. ODEO is undoubtedly a great bet that integrates cutting-edge technology to facilitate safe and agile electoral processes in times of pandemic, avoiding the risk of face-to-face contagion.
