Borja Vargues

Director for Innovation and Quality of the Public Justice Service

Borja Vargues currently heads the General Secretariat for Innovation and Quality of the Public Justice Service.

Born in Madrid on 8 June 1976 and with a degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid, he entered the Judicial Career in 2002 with a remarkable professional career:

  • Appointed on 5 February 2020 Secretary General for the Innovation and Quality of the Public Justice Service by RD 259/2020 of 4 February 2020
  • Until his appointment, he was assigned as a magistrate in the Criminal Courts (with jurisdiction over violence against women) in Madrid.
  • He previously practised in the Courts of First Instance and Instruction of Illescas (Toledo).
  • From 2004 to 2010 he was seconded to the Ministry of Justice as coordinator of the Support Unit of the General Secretariat for Modernisation of the Ministry of Justice.
  • He was a member, appointed by the Ministry of Justice, of the Legal Advisory Commission for the Implementation of the New Judicial Office.
  • He has participated in lectures and publications on different subjects related to the process of modernisation of the Administration of Justice and in international projects.
